2. Cutting and Fastening

It is recommended that Tower™ Shake and Tower™ Slate be fastened with a minimum 1½” (38 mm) hot dipped galvanized ringed roofing nails. Stainless steel (grade 304) ringed roofing nails may also be used for superior longevity (use grade 316 stainless steel nails for coastal salt water areas), or hot zinc dipped No. 8 corrosion resistant screws with a #2 Phillips head.

Place nails in the areas indicated on each shingle and ensure the head of the nail is flush with the surface of the shingle. When using a pneumatic nailer, ensure the fasteners are not over driven. If applying the product below 10 °C (50 °F), hand nailing the product is recommended. Do not install product below -10 °C (14 °F).

When cutting a shingle is required, use a jigsaw, circular saw, miter saw, or a utility knife. When using a utility knife score deep the face of the shingle, and then bend the shingle back in the opposite direction, continue cutting on the back side.
